The paint has peeled off on a surface painted with enamel or varnish.

Causes
  • The surface was not properly prepared (without sanding).
  • Moisture has accumulated at the paint - wood interface, either from the interior of the wood or from the environment.
  • An unsuitable paint was used (low moisture resistance). 
Solution
  • Sand the surface.
  • Fill in any cracks with acrylic putty.
  • Apply two coats of enamel paint or varnish.
