KRAFT Paints: Upgraded a school in Astypalea with the Total Proof PU FIBER 25 waterproofing system
Fully supporting meaningful social contribution, the company supplied the advanced waterproofing system for the complete insulation and sealing of the roofs of the island’s Primary School.
With consistency and sensitivity, KRAFT Paints, a member of the Druckfarben Group, has in recent years implemented initiatives throughout the Aegean that on the one hand help local communities address everyday problems and on the other align with sustainability and green development. It responds quickly and effectively to the needs of remote islands across the Aegean’s non-profitable lines, with Kinaros and Koufonisia being recent examples, while also being a long-standing sponsor of the Aegean Team. The latest initiative took place a few weeks ago on the westernmost island of the Dodecanese, Astypalea.
There, on the “butterfly” of the Aegean - an island that combines Cycladic architecture with the natural beauty of the Dodecanese - KRAFT Paints supplied the products needed for the waterproofing of the roofs of the island’s only Primary School, which were in poor condition. However, the island was not selected for this reason alone. Astypalea is a pioneer in sustainable practices, with electric vehicles, renewable energy sources, and environmentally friendly infrastructures - elements that align with the company’s values and its orientation toward sustainability. Therefore, its Primary School needed to have modern insulation, and that is exactly what was achieved!
KRAFT Paints provided the TOTAL PROOF PU FIBER 25 SYSTEM, which offers comprehensive waterproofing solutions for flat roofs, terraces, and pitched roofs. This innovative waterproofing system was used on the roofs of the island’s Primary School, making a notable difference. Based on acrylic aliphatic polyurethane copolymer and reinforced with 3D fiber technology, it forms a continuous, elastic membrane that keeps moisture out and provides high mechanical and chemical resistance, as well as a certified lifespan of at least 25 years.

The recent waterproofing of the school’s roofs is not simply a technical maintenance project, but a meaningful step toward a more sustainable and healthier future. This action is part of the international Cool Roof, Smart Choice campaign of the Nova Paint Club*, of which KRAFT Paints is a member, aiming to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and create cooler, greener cities.
Beyond the protection of infrastructure, this initiative promotes the wellbeing and health of students, teachers, and the wider community, demonstrating that green interventions in educational buildings are an investment in the future - a cleaner, more sustainable, and smarter future. Through this waterproofing and sealing intervention, the school’s roofs are now resistant even to extreme weather conditions which - due to the climate crisis - are no longer uncommon.

In a related statement, the Mayor of Astypalea, Nikolaos Komineas, said regarding the intervention: "As part of our green policy and with the aim of a more sustainable way of life, we proceeded with the waterproofing of the roofs of Astypalea’s largest school complex, saving energy and reducing CO₂ emissions. We warmly thank KRAFT Paints for its significant sponsorship and its support in actions that protect the environment and strengthen the community."
With its sights set on a greener future, the Druckfarben Group will continue to support initiatives that improve daily life, save energy, and address climate change.
